oooo look at my beautiful nails

...lovely, lovely, best manicure in town.
I will say this though, between the two manicurists, I prefer the lady one. She somehow has a softer touch and is much less hairy.
(So we both have practice at cutting nails, changing diapers, etc...we alternate. This time Laura did the left, I did the right hand...)

The trauma of clipping baby nails...

Thankfully, Judah is pretty chill about this activity. WE go in quick though and cut the nails just after a feeding, when he is nice and loopy.

Still at peace, in his towel

About two mintues after this shot, when we left the hot bathroom, the crying followed - so did a feeding.

Risque shot in the bath...

Judah loves the water. He gets in a peaceful zone. It is the adjustment after that can invoke crying. We have been creative and used a tip a friend offered. In the bathroom we have all our supplies ready and a comfy towel to dry off. The tip is using a space heater in the room so the air is not cold. It gets like a sauna. Still we are working on mastering the art of the afterBath.

Milk drunk...

Now I get why they wake up and fuss...they are hooked on the milk. This stuff really knocks them out. Its like they have a milk hang over...

happy parents

If Judah is asleep in our arms, we are very happy. In the middle of week three we are experiencing a bit more crying. It is a challenge, but gives us a chance to practice patience and creative methods to soothe. Each cry is a communication and is connected to some baby need. We listened to this piece that aired on Oprah, we are trying to crack the Judah code. Her is what Priscilla said on Oprah's Amazing Medical Breakthroughs:

Amazing Medical Breakthroughs

After testing her baby language theory on more than 1,000 infants around the world, Priscilla Dunstan says there are five words that all babies 0–3 months old say—regardless of race and culture:
Neh="I'm hungry"
Owh="I'm sleepy"
Heh="I'm experiencing discomfort"
Eair="I have lower gas"
Eh="I need to burp"

Those "words" are actually sound reflexes, Priscilla says. "Babies all around the world have the same reflexes, and they therefore make the same sounds," she says. If parents don't respond to those reflexes, Priscilla says the baby will eventually stop using them.Priscilla recommends that parents listen for those words in a baby's pre-cry before they start crying hysterically. She says there is no one sound that's harder to hear than others because it varies by individual. She also says some babies use some words more than others.The Dunstan Baby Language DVD is currently available. Visit www.dunstanbaby.com to order your copy.

First Bath in the sink

Wow, Bath time was slippery and fun at the same time. Judah took the water and was calm and at peace in his little tub. The drying off part and cold afterwards was a little upsetting, but we look forward to the next bath time.
